Is the GOP “code blue”?

As it currently functions, the Republican Party prognosis is terminal!  In addition to cardiac arrest the party has contracted a politically fatal disease which destroys the political backbone and brain, leaving many in congress acting like zombies.  When I was a Republican, I relished being a member of a great political institution whose foundation was created by such political icons as Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan.  Unfortunately, the current leadership of McConnell and Ryan, joined by many members of congress, all of whom have become infected with the deadly T-virus of “protect and defend” the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.  T- virus  has reached the pandemic stage which uncorrected will wipe out the Republican Party over the next several election cycles. The unchecked continuance of this infection will surely be the death of the GOP.  If one wants to save the Party from this faith, radical measures must be taken.  

One possible method is to put the Party into an induced political coma while cures are formulated.  During this period and while under coma in intensive care, the Party must be detoxed and rebuilt.  To rebuild the Party during this period, the bad actors should be relieved of Party affiliation and the remaining reasonable party leadership must be engaged in scouting and grooming new, younger congressional candidates.  The sooner this process begins, the shorter the intensive care recovery.  If not acted upon by responsible leadership, the GOP will die either by the election dynamics or from prolonged exposure to the T-virus.

To avoid totally relinquishing congressional control to the other party during this period, it is suggested that responsible party members take the T-virus antidote by changing party affiliation to/or by actively supporting nonpartisan candidates.  Obviously, Party base voters would find it very difficult to continue to vote for T-virus infected zombies or alternately the other party, or not vote at all.  However, they should and would seriously consider voting for a nonpartisan candidate during this reconstruction period that represents their values and issue concerns.  Conversion to and supporting of nonpartisan candidates is a viable solution during recovery in this trying detoxification period.  Smart leadership is just that and will do that which is best for survival!
