A recent publisher’s editorial commentary on “Sheldon Adelson’s money” was insightful and painful . The piece brought home the power of money in politics. I’m sorry, the thoughts are well meaning but fall on deaf ears! Let me explain. You cannot change a racist’s mind. Months ago I penned a commentary which called out the non effect of billionaire contributions to the Republican party. It was demonstrated in House bill (HR 183) created earlier this year after the Tree of Life Synagogue killings. It was not a legislative act.
House bill (HR 183, 7 March 2019), was the result of various racial acts including the murderous attacks on Houses of Worship, and it began with “Condemning anti-Semitism as hateful expression of intolerance that are contradictory to the values and aspirations that define the people of the United States…”
The Republican Party who enjoys the support of many in the Jewish orthodox community and many of them are extremely wealthy members of the Las Vegas community. These Jewish billionaires, such as Sheldon Adelson and Steve Wynn have during multiple election cycles contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to the Republican Party. It has been the party of their choice and therefore the party whose candidates should have been sensitive to these premier contributors, but there is a question for these contributors. Have they forgotten “Jews as infestation of vermin!”, Kristallnacht, Auschwitz, a six pointed yellow star, the Warsaw ghetto, or the St. Louis?
