THE OTHER IMPORTANT ELECTION
The other most important election in 2020 is that of the Senate. Regaining control of the Senate and removing it’s leader, ‘Moscow Mitch’, would be in essence regaining the people’s control of two branches of government. The Senate and the Federal Judiciary. Since 2010 the self proclaimed ‘Grim Reaper’ McConnell has controlled the Senate with an iron glove. The most critical actions taken in the McConnell controlled Senate during the Trump presidency has been making lifetime federal judicial appointments of ultra conservative judges of questionably qualified applicants. These appointees will sit on the bench for generations. In addition, since 2010 McConnell has not let any legislation come before that body, even for discussion, that might be of benefit to the other party and certainly not any that will benefit the general public. Voting rights, immigration, health care, equal wage, infrastructure funding, gun reform, consumer protection, climate control, election protection, are just a few of the areas of legislation he has stalled by not convening a Senate hearing or a committee meeting! Grim Reaper Mitch should be acknowledged for letting gun registration legislation sit on his desk for over seven months while domestic terrorists are killing folks in shopping centers. It seems that in previous eras some of this behavior might have been considered traitorous!
There are three paths available to regain control of the Senate.
Path 1. McConnell is up for re-election and is being challenged by a viable democratic candidate, a woman who served in the military as combat pilot! By financially supporting her and helping wherever possible, McConnell will be defeated in 2020, losing his senate seat and his majority leadership!
Path 2. There are 33 senate seats up for re-election in the Senate, 22 of those seats are held by Republicans. If three or four of them are replaced by Democrats it would result in a change of control in the Senate and a new Majority Leader. Of course, that is with the assumption that there are no net losses in Democrat numbers.
One observation. There is an unusual opportunity available to many of the presidential candidates. If they are not presently members of congress they may have an opportunity to switch their presidential campaign into a senatorial campaign and pursue a Senate seat with the transfer of their presidential campaign financial resources . That would provide them immediate resources to effect a challenging campaign. The presidential field represents a group of extremely qualified people and they should give serious thought to this alternative to make a real mark. Only one of the 20+ candidates will actually receive the presidential nomination and the others will return to their pre campaign mode. The Senate is as important as the presidency, if not more so in some areas. Bringing the Senate back to the people is as important as the presidential race.

Path 3. Pursue both Paths 1 and 2.
